The 2024 More Than Fishing Surfperch Fishing Championship, held from October 4th to 6th, was a thrilling competition that saw talented anglers battling for the top prize of $1,000. Fishermen, some competing solo and others in teams, vied for victory, showing impressive skill and determination over the weekend.
First place went to Martin Mansera of ManseraOutdoors, who landed an incredible total length of 78 inches for his top five surfperch catches. Second place was claimed by Team Tip2Tip, with members, John Gonzalez and Jerryl Villaros, with a total of 77.75 inches, coming in just behind Mansera. Third place was secured by Diao Khaykham, whose total came in at 76.75 inches, only an inch shy of second place.
According to his Instagram profile, Martin Mansera is a digital creator, known for sharing his fishing and hunting adventures online. He also runs a popular YouTube channel, Mansera Outdoors, which has already garnered over 600,000 views from fishing enthusiasts across the globe.
The tournament, although entirely virtual, fostered a sense of camaraderie among competitors, as many anglers were fishing in the same areas along the Central Coast. In the closing virtual ceremony, Martin Mansera expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for bringing us together virtually. There were quite a few of us fishing on the same beach, and it was great to meet others I hadn’t seen before. You’ve given us one more reason to come together as a community.”
Jun, the founder of More Than Fishing, responded, “I should be the one thanking everyone for trusting us with this event. Your dedication over the last three days was amazing, and I truly appreciate all the hard work and passion you’ve put into this tournament.”
How the Tournament Works
The More Than Fishing Surfperch Fishing Championship is a three-day online event, running from 7 AM to 7 PM each day. Competitors have the option to fish solo or form a team of two, submitting video footage of their catches at the end of each day. Winners are determined by the total length of the five largest surfperch caught over the course of the competition.
